People puja starts shopping before way from the festival. The malls and streets start getting crowded from most probably the month of July. 4. Mahalaya goose bump:
This city never miss to sleep but on the day of Mahalaya bengali will wake up on sharp 4 am and turn on their radio because to listen the recital of Briendra Krishna Bahdra. Then we pray for peace by remembering our be-late family member and it’s called “Tarpon”.
5. Devi Bodhon:
When finally the days come to worship then first durga idol arrives in the pandels. After arrivals placed with weapons in durga ma’s ten hands and then pandit worship her on the day sasthi morning.
6. Pandel Hopping:
Generally people started pandel hopping at the day of panchami but now people start to pandel hopping ditia or tritia (ditia, tritia, panchami etc you can find the date by bengali calendar).
7. New trend is theme pandel:
Before some year theme based pandel we didn’t see either. But now-a-days theme based puja is going on trend. It modernize the style our puja, like culture and creativity always shows in durga puja and now artist can show their talent to create unique idea based them unique creations and people loved to see these. So many pandels are there in Kolkata and their different theme, full of creativity, culture, patience and colour and of course hard work. So many people really working hard to create this kind of theme based pandels. This is the city where you can see full creativity everywhere.
8. Foodies Delight:
Most of us love to click photos when we go out for dinner or lunch to the restaurants. Then this is the time where food lover enjoy delicious food. Actually this not like prayer, it’s a rituals. It’s called anjali in bengali. In this day bengali ladies wear saree and boys wear punjabi and going to pandels for anjali. Pandit will read mantra very loudly and other people will repeat that again, so like this way anjali will complete. Like this way Bengalis actually pray to their ma, keep their family and love ones stay healthy, happy and safe. Come again and again ma.
10. The pleasant sound of Dhaak:
The rhythm of the dhaak is very energetic and pleasant to listen. You can dance on this sound on a rhythm. Dhaakies are centre of attraction of puja. When pandit does arati in front of ma then people slightly dance with rhythm of dhaak. And at the end day of puja called dashami, people perform dhunuchi dance also with dhaak.
11. Sindur Khela:
On the day of Dashami, all the women of every neighbourhood get together and ovation of ma durga. After the ovation all they put sindur on each other because by this way they pray for their husband to live long and keep their family to be safe. Then idol will immersion on ganga. It’s the ended up the puja and after the time it’s called bijoya.
Now please note if you come outside from Kolkata and want to visit the time of durga puja then you have to book hotels before so many times because of crises of hotels. So many people gathered here, so you may be in danger.
